Methodology
Each app was downloaded from the App Store and tested in the same controlled environment in May 2026: a 4 × 4 m room with four hidden cameras placed at three distances (0.5 m, 1.5 m, 3 m) and three angles. Half the cameras emitted infrared light; half were lens-only. We ran each app three times per camera on iPhone 15 with cellular and Wi-Fi off (except for the Wi-Fi-audit category).
Scores are weighted as follows: detection accuracy 40%, ease of use 25%, features 20%, free version 15%. False positives are reported separately and cap a perfect 10. Ratings and prices on this page were verified against the App Store on 2026-05-13. We are not paid by any of the apps reviewed.
The same methodology is applied each quarter. The next refresh is scheduled for August 2026.
