Cookies, explained plainly.

1 · What Are Cookies
A quick, jargon-free explanation.
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember your preferences, measure traffic, and function correctly across pages.
🍪 Session cookies
Temporary files that exist only while your browser tab is open. They are deleted automatically when you close the tab or browser.
📌 Persistent cookies
Files that remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. Used to remember preferences across visits.
🏠 First-party cookies
Set directly by hiddensec.com. We control what they store and how long they last. These are the primary cookies on our site.
🔗 Third-party cookies
Set by external services (e.g. analytics providers) loaded on our pages. We list every third party we use in Section 4.
2 · Cookies & the NoSpy App
The app itself uses no cookies.
NoSpy is a native iPhone app distributed through the Apple App Store. It runs entirely offline. No browser, no cookies, no data transmitted from your device during a scan.
3 · Types of Cookies We Use
What’s actually on our site.
We keep our cookie footprint minimal. Here is every category in use on hiddensec.com.
| Category | Purpose | Can you opt out? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Keeps the site functioning — page navigation, form submissions, security tokens. Without these the site cannot work. | No — required for basic operation |
| Preference | Remembers your cookie consent choice so we don’t ask on every visit. | No — stores your own decision |
| Analytics | Aggregated, anonymised traffic data: which pages are visited, how long, what device type. No personal identifiers stored. | Yes — see Section 5 |
| Marketing / advertising | Not used. We run no retargeting or ad-network cookies on hiddensec.com. | N/A — not present |
4 · Third-Party Cookies
Who else sets cookies on our pages.
We use a minimal set of trusted third-party services. Each one has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.
| Service | Why we use it | Data collected | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plausible Analytics | Privacy-first website analytics. No personal data, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting. | Page views, referral source, country (aggregated) | plausible.io/privacy |
| Apple App Store (badge) | Download link and App Store badge. No tracking pixel; static link only. | None from our side | apple.com/legal/privacy |
5 · Your Controls
You’re in charge.
You have several ways to manage, limit, or remove cookies from your device at any time.
🌐 Browser settings
All modern browsers let you view, block, or delete cookies. Find the option under Settings → Privacy & Security in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
🚫 Opt-out of analytics
To exclude your visits from our aggregated Plausible stats, enable “Do Not Track” in your browser — Plausible honours this signal automatically.
🕵️ Private / incognito mode
Browsing in incognito mode prevents any persistent cookies from being saved after you close the window.
📧 Contact us directly
If you have a specific data or cookie concern, email privacy@hiddensec.com and we’ll address it within 2 business days.
6 · Retention Periods
How long cookies last.
Different cookies have different lifespans. Here’s what to expect on our site.
| Cookie type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Session / navigation cookies | Deleted when you close your browser tab |
| Consent preference cookie | 12 months — so we don’t ask again on your next visit |
| Analytics (Plausible) | No cookie placed — Plausible is cookieless |
7 · Policy Changes
When and how we update this policy.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as our site changes or regulations evolve. Here’s our commitment when that happens.
- The “Last updated” date at the top of the page will always reflect the most recent revision.
- If we introduce a new category of cookie (e.g. analytics from a new provider), we will update this page before deploying it.
- We will never introduce advertising or cross-site tracking cookies without clearly updating this policy and, where required by law, requesting fresh consent.
- Material changes that affect your rights will be announced on our blog at hiddensec.com/blog.
